Mithaniel & Erollisi Marr
Every Freeport paladin who ever knelt in the Temple of Marr was serving two gods who came to Norrath without asking anyone’s permission.

Children of the water lord
Mithaniel Marr, god of valor, and Erollisi Marr, goddess of love, are twins and the children of Tarew Marr, god of water. In the old histories they were the last gods to come to Norrath, and they asked no one’s permission and made no pacts. They made the barbarians in the cold north, near the ruins of the giant lands: a young, rough people at war with everything, including each other.
But the manual says a small minority of barbarians began to believe in something more, perhaps a seed planted by the twins. That led to the first humans, which is why Erollisi is called partly responsible for humans and Erudites too.

Erollisi among the elves
In “From Pond to Paladin,” the young twins walked Norrath looking for a cause worthy of their divinity. Innoruuk sent his Teir’Dal to tempt Erollisi into darkness, but her father’s wisdom let her see their wickedness more clearly than their faces. She fled to the lands of Tunare’s elves and there found warmth, beauty and the most mortal of things: love.

Mithaniel in chains
Cazic-Thule could not frighten Mithaniel, so his servants lured him into the swamps instead. Trolls, lizard folk and nameless horrors captured him and bound him with their master’s magic. He prayed to his father day and night, unanswered, until he fell into an exhausted sleep, and Terris-Thule came into his dreams.

What their faithful live by
Mithaniel’s followers hold that valor is what separates civilized beings from beasts; they keep a strict code of truth, honor and charity and have little patience for mischief. Erollisi’s followers believe love conquers all and that dying to defend what you love is the greatest good. Her worship centers on the Temple of Marr in Freeport.

Mithaniel in the rulebook
The RPG Handbook calls Mithaniel Marr, god of valor, orderly good, the Truthbringer or Lightbringer. From the Plane of Valor he guides paladins and other servants of good, and his followers may only be orderly good or neutral good. He is “the picture of paladinhood,” with long flowing hair, shining silver full plate and a glowing, enchanted longsword, which is also his favored weapon. He is allied with his sister and with Karana. Innoruuk, Cazic-Thule and Bertoxxulous are his hated enemies, and he has “a friendly rivalry with Solusek Ro.”

Children of the twins
The RPG Everfrost sourcebook records the Northmen’s skalds saying that the last two gods to reach Norrath, Mithaniel and Erollisi Marr, created the barbarians together, and an EverQuest II book of barbarian history says the same: “WE are the sons and daughters of Mithaniel Marr… and Erollisi Marr.” The frogloks claim Mithaniel alone. The Valorous Tragedy of the Frogloks of Guk praises him for the strength that broke a Rallosian assault on Guk, and EverQuest II’s Legacy of Guk tells of retaking the city as Gukta, the outpost of Marr.
Monuments and temples
The in-game Ardathium, Volume II says the Fortress of Ardathium, built by the half-elf paladin Countess Viannay north of the Elddar Forest in the first years of the Monument Age, was the first great monument raised in Mithaniel’s name. In Freeport, the RPG names the Knights of Truth, paladins of Mithaniel whose chapterhouse is the Hall of Truth, and the Temple of Marr, whose clerics serve both twins but mostly Erollisi, guarded by paladins called the Sentries.
Valor and the Halls of Honor
Official Planes of Power lore says the Plane of Valor exists to test mortals who want to enter the Halls of Honor, starting with an Amphitheatre guarded by the Soldiers of Marr. The Halls themselves, home of the Truthbringer and heroes of every era, are carved entirely from white marble and accented with gold and silver. In EverQuest Online Adventures, an “agent of Honor” outside Halas called the giants’ invasion “an affront to everything good and righteous” and swore: “Without honor and justice, there is nothing.”
