Guk

The frogloks’ great dungeon east of Innothule: Upper Guk’s advanced froglok society, and below it the Ruins of Ancient Guk, split between the living frogloks and the Ghoul Lord’s undead.

An advanced society

Guk is one of the largest dungeons in Norrath, dug beside Innothule Swamp. Upper Guk is home to one of the most advanced societies in the world, the EQ Atlas says, on a par with the Kerrans: vast and twisting, full of frogloks and their treasures. Below it, Lower Guk, the Ruins of Ancient Guk, is a vast warren of tunnels where the living frogloks under the Froglok King fight the undead under the Ghoul Lord, who hold most of the deepest ruins.

Upper Guk runs from about level 4 to 25 and above: tads, guards and sentries at the front, then warriors, shamans and knights ranked Tuk, Gaz, Ton, Vis, Shin, Nok and Tsu, with alligators, crocodiles, heart spiders and fungus men. Lower Guk runs from about 30 to 50 and above, adding basilisks, ghouls, gargoyles, ice bones, minotaurs and vampire bats.

Upper Guk

The danger is in the mix: low and high frogloks sit close together, and a warrior five levels higher may be around the corner. They cooperate, too; tads heal the guards you pull, and run if you attack them first. So although the front rooms start around fourth level, most people there are at least tenth.

Trains here are 20th-level warriors mixed with tads, made worse by the entry hall, wide enough for one ogre or troll, so one idle ogre in the doorway means death, and by the bridge over the water room. Good races who have not hurt their froglok faction can walk through unmolested.

Live side and dead side

Lower Guk is counted among the two deadliest dungeons on Antonica. It is split into the live side and the dead side. Its defence is confusion and depth: the maze on the live side loses people, and the good pull spots are far in past aggressive creatures. Invisibility helps, but vampire bats and others see through it.

Hunting the live side hurts froglok faction; killing undead frogloks restores it. The dead side is full of undead, a gift to classes built for them, and far from any exit, so bring an evacuator. Many shamans and wizards make the DoTs and nukes the main specific danger. Named figures include the Froglok King, the Ghoul Lord, the Ghoul Arch Magi, the Minotaur Patriarch and Slaythe the Slayer.

Entrance and history

Guk lies to the east of Innothule Swamp, its only door. The frogloks’ rise from these halls, and their change at the hand of Mithaniel Marr, is told in Guk and the Frogloks and Gukta, Outpost of Marr.
