The Legacy of Ykesha
The Legacy of Ykesha was EverQuest’s fifth expansion, released on February 25, 2003. It is best known for making the frogloks a playable race.
What it added
It was smaller than the expansions before it, but it changed a lot. Besides the frogloks it brought five new zones, the ability to dye armour, which quickly caught on, and a new equipment slot for charms. It was also the first expansion sold by digital download.
All five zones are on one island, Broken Skull Rock, a troll pirate stronghold south of the Antonica marshlands reached from the coast of the Stonebrunt Mountains on Odus.
The frogloks
The frogloks are a friendly, neutral race of amphibious frog-men from the swamps of Norrath, intelligent, with far better night vision than most races and a natural gift for swimming. Before this expansion players met them only as enemies in the swamps of Kunark and Antonica.
They had been locked in an endless war with the trolls until their god, Mithaniel Marr, blessed them with the means to turn it. The trolls fled to Neriak and the frogloks took their stronghold, naming it New Guk. Years later, during the War, the trolls came back and drove the frogloks into the Rathe Mountains, and to win back their home the frogloks turned to learning dark magic. Broken Skull Rock
The island belongs to the Broken Skull Clan, troll pirates who worship Innoruuk. You arrive in the Gulf of Gunthak, descend through Dulak’s Harbor and the Torgiran Mines to the Crypt of Nadox, and find the pirate ship Hate’s Fury in a lagoon beneath it. Whether the clan treats you as a friend is up to you.
