The Gulf of Gunthak

The Gulf of Gunthak is the harbour of Broken Skull Rock, a troll pirate island far south of the Antonica marshlands, and the place almost every visitor first steps ashore.

The front door of the Broken Skull Clan

Broken Skull Rock belongs to a band of trolls called the Broken Skull Clan. The Gulf is their entry point: it houses new recruits and anyone the trolls trust just enough not to kill outright. A large lighthouse stands over the water, and lean-tos scattered along the shore sell supplies you will not find elsewhere.

The Gulf is also where you decide where you stand with the clan. Your choice tends to follow how you feel about the frogloks, because the Legacy of Ykesha was the expansion that made the frogloks a playable race and set them against the trolls of Grobb.

Getting there

Reaching the island is hard on purpose. You set out from the coast of the Stonebrunt Mountains on Odus, the only route the official primer gives. Our map draws that crossing as a sea route off the island’s north-east, where the zone-line files put the exit.

From the Gulf, passages lead into the rock. The zone-line files mark two of them: north to Dulak’s Harbor and south-west down to the Crypt of Nadox. Walking past the Gulf without the clan’s leave is a quick way to make enemies.

Maps the pirates destroyed

The trolls guard their base by destroying every accurate chart of it. A cartographer’s quest starts from a ruined map of the Gulf with its compass notation, legend and coordinate label all torn away. You recover the three pieces from the pirates of Gunthak and Dulak’s Harbor so that a finished map can be drawn and the pirates’ secret broken.

The Gulf is full of other quest-givers too, from shipwrecked sailors to Millius Darkwater and Nolwik Barquin, and the island’s in-game books on the troll pirates begin here.

The god behind the island

The clan bows to Innoruuk, the Prince of Hate. You meet his worship first in Dulak’s Harbor, where his luggald servants guard a temple, and at its fiercest in the Crypt of Nadox at the island’s heart. The same expansion told the story of Ykesha and the fall of Grobb and the frogloks’ new home at Gukta, so the island sits on the troll side of that war.

Zone record at a glance

The zone database lists The Gulf of Gunthak as an outdoor zone, open to everyone, with no key or instance needed. Its listed level range is 35 to 50.

The same record names its neighbours as Stonebrunt Mountains, Dulak's Harbor and The Crypt of Nadox. The map on this page draws only the links the map-pack zone lines confirm.
