Lake of Ill Omen
The Lake of Ill Omen lies southwest of Cabilis in the centre of Kunark: a lake over a drowned city, fought over by the Iksar and the Sarnak, with goblins in the hills and in the water.
The drowned city
A player guide says the lake takes its name from what stood here. The Iksar resort of Veksar sank into the water, and the area was overrun by the Sarnak Collective. A player guide adds that it was built by the Kylong tribe after the Shissar were driven out of Kunark, stood for nearly a thousand years, and was destroyed by the dragon Garudon. The sunken city became its own zone with Legacy of Ykesha.

Iksar against Sarnak
The Sarnak hold an old fortress in the southwest of the lake, a classic zone atlas says, and the Brood of Kotiz have made it their task to drive them out, sending their trainees to do it. A player guide describes the Iksar of Cabilis still fighting the Sarnak over the land. Among the notable Sarnak a player guide names Chancellor Di’Zok, Lord Gorelik and Advisor Sh’Orok. For the Sarnak and their stronghold, see Chardok and the Sarnak.

Goblins and wildlife
The goblins have a mine in the hills north of the lake, and a network of goblin caves to the northwest leads through to Warsliks Woods. A clan of Bloodgill goblins lives in the lake itself, outside fallen Veksar. Around the shore roam Kunark’s native wildlife, such as sabretooth cats, and very aggressive undead.
a classic zone atlas says the real danger is the wandering monsters. Goblins are the worst of them, hard to see at night in the long grass, and strong ones wander among much weaker creatures. The Sarnak are hard to spot too, though they wander less. The Bloodgill goblins attack swimmers and sometimes walk the shore. Ruins across the area are used as outposts by outcast Iksar and others.

Roads onward
A classic zone atlas lists West Cabilis, Firiona Vie, the Frontier Mountains, Warsliks Woods and Veksar as its neighbours. Monsters run from level 1 into the 30s, so the lake serves both new Iksar from the city and travellers on their way north from the elves’ docks in Firiona Vie.
