Skyfire Mountains

The Skyfire Mountains are the volcanic dragon country of northwestern Kunark, lit red at night by flowing lava and guarding the gate of Veeshan’s Peak.

A red sky

A classic zone atlas says the mountains are named for the reddish glow that lights the night sky, cast by lava flowing across the broken land. The dragons have claimed this part of Kunark, and their kind move freely over it to protect their stronghold, Veeshan’s Peak. A player guide calls it a volcanic region in the northwest of Kunark, home to the minions of Scale who guard the Peak.

Dragons and drakes

Wyverns, wurms, drakes and chromodracs fill the zone, and all of them attack, a player guide says. Most do not see invisible travellers, but the great dragon Talendor does. Chromodracs dispel in an area, and many drakes and most wyverns can summon you. Hunting here also hurts your standing with Kunark’s outdoor dragons, such as Gorenaire in the Dreadlands. The ground is rough too: run carelessly and you can land in a lava river or a lake of lava. The wizard portal drops groups into a busy area where they are often attacked at once.

People come anyway, a player guide notes, because many high-level spells drop here. Notable figures include Eldrig the Old, Black Scar and Zordakilicus Ragefire.

Veeshan’s Peak

A community wiki says Veeshan’s Peak is reached through a large gate guarded by elder wyverns. It is the ancient fortress of the Ring of Scale, the dragons who rebelled against the Claws of Veeshan and left with Jaled’Dar for Kunark. A player guide says the Lords of Scale hold court there and calls them the oldest living creatures in Norrath, left by Veeshan at the world’s birth; from the Peak Trakanon led the dragons against the Iksar above the Field of Bone. A key from the Rune of Scale quest is needed to enter.

Roads onward

A classic zone atlas lists three neighbours: the Burning Wood, the Overthere and Veeshan’s Peak.

The Atlas notes that you can pull freely to most walls and zone edges, since the area is open enough for safer pulling. Veeshan’s Peak is entered through a large, ornate gate heavily guarded by wyverns and their kin, and the wizard spell Tishan’s Relocation brings a group to the zone.
