Burning Wood
The Burning Wood is an old forest on Kunark’s western coast, scarred and set alight by falling meteors, with the Sarnak city of Chardok in its northeast corner.
Fire from the sky
player guides say the Burning Wood was once an ancient, beautiful forest whose surface has been scarred by fiery meteors striking it over recent centuries, leaving it marred and aflame. A player guide says some believe a meteor did it, pointing to a couple of giant craters and fires that still burn. A community wiki notes that players usually call it Burning Woods.

Who lives here
The Sarnak city of Chardok sits in the northeast corner, and followers of Di’Zok roam what is left of the woods, a player guide says. Also living here are the Kromdul, a hornets’ nest, many wandering undead and very aggressive tatterback gorillas. A classic zone atlas names three static camps: the Sarnak fortress in the northeast, a forest giant town above a crater and the hornets’ nest in the southwest. For the Sarnak city, see Chardok and the Sarnak.

Dangers
Like much of Kunark, a player guide says, this is a wide open zone crossed by many wandering monsters. The edges are wooded and hilly, which hides them, and they often travel and spawn along the zone walls, so edge hunting is riskier than usual. The blasted centre is more open but full of wurms, undead and apes. Nearly everything is aggressive. The craters are the other danger: deep and steep, they open under anyone running fast over a rise.
In return, the middle of the zone is one of the few outdoor places where it can be better to hunt in the open, with a steady supply of monsters at a consistent level for a watchful group.

Roads onward
A classic zone atlas lists the Frontier Mountains, the Dreadlands, the Skyfire Mountains and Chardok as neighbours. A player guide notes that Chardok’s entrance is one-way and that the dungeon was revamped on October 8, 2001.
The Atlas says the way to the Frontier Mountains is a tunnel into the mountains, and Chardok is entered through what it calls the evil lizard castle. The entrance and exit are not the same: to leave, travel left inside Chardok to the exit back to the Burning Wood.
