The Emerald Jungle

The Emerald Jungle fills the northeastern corner of Kunark, east of the Field of Bone: a beautiful, dark and dangerous forest sunk below a great cliff, with a dragon on its lower ground and a lost Iksar city hidden in its south.

A sunken jungle

player guides describe a vast, beautiful and dangerous jungle cut off from the rest of the continent by a large cliff, below which it sinks into the earth. An ancient city lies hidden in the twisted trees. A player guide says the cliff separates it from the west, and that its beauty hides great dangers: wandering gorillas, tigers, raptors and man-eating plants.

a player guide adds a few landmarks: A small lake in the northeast, a band of Iksar bandits to the north of it, and further south, deep in the thicket, the City of Mist.

Severilous

The dragon Severilous roams the jungle, and a player guide says the jungle’s own creatures leave him alone; he is aligned with Kunark’s Ring of Scale. A player guide puts him in the northwest, and a classic zone atlas on the lower level, warning that in a jungle this dark anyone with tracking should watch for him constantly.

The great cliff

The Atlas says the only danger from the land itself is the huge cliff across the western half of the zone, which roughly divides weaker monsters above from tougher ones below. It is not a hill: run off it and you will probably die. There are only two safe ways down, levitating or taking the Grand Staircase near the northern end. The zone exits are a long way from most hunting spots, one of them on top of the cliff, and it is easy to get turned around.

Virtually everything attacks on sight and most creatures see through invisibility. Even so, a player guide calls the jungle open and underhunted, since most visitors are only passing through to the City of Mist. Iksar outcast camps provide fixed spawns along the jungle walls.

The City of Mist

A player guide says the City of Mist, also called Torsis, was built under Lord Rak’Ashiir soon after the fall of the Shissar. His wife fled the city with a lover, Rak’Ashiir lost faith in his god, and Cazic-Thule sent a servant against the city. A community wiki calls it the pinnacle of Iksar building in its day. The jungle’s neighbours are the City of Mist, the Field of Bone and Trakanon’s Teeth.
