Shar Vahl

Shar Vahl is the city of the Vah Shir, the cat people of Luclin, built of acrylia in the crater a piece of Norrath made when it struck the dark side of the moon.

A city in a crater

The Vah Shir once lived on Odus. Player guides tell the same story: during a great battle, the blast that made the Hole on that continent threw a huge chunk of rock off the world, and it came to rest on Luclin. The Vah Shir built their new home in the crater it left, using its walls as a natural defence, and adapted quickly to life on the moon.

The Atlas places the city in that crater on the dark side, and its only neighbours are the two zones around it.

Acrylia and bridges

The city is made from acrylia, a player guide says, mined in the Tenebrous Mountain range to the north, which gives Shar Vahl a look unlike anywhere on Norrath or elsewhere on the moon. The crater makes it a strong place to hold: only two bridges cross the pit into the city.

The pit itself is full of mildly dangerous creatures, and the city’s young trainees hunt them for practice. The Atlas lists grimling skeletons, rhino beetle hatchlings, rock hoppers, scorpions and xakra larva, with a rare scorpion named Stingtail, and puts their levels at only 1 to 5.

Home of the Vah Shir

The Atlas calls the Vah Shir a proud race who have taken to Luclin well. Shar Vahl keeps guilds for bards, beastlords, rogues, shamans and warriors, and full artisan facilities: pottery wheel, kiln, forge, brew barrel, oven and sewing kit.

For a new Vah Shir character this is the first home, with the training grounds of the pit at the doorstep and the gentle edges of the surrounding zones beyond the bridges.

The way out

Shar Vahl is reached only through Shadeweaver’s Thicket or Hollowshade Moor, a player guide says. The moor leads on toward the acrylia mines in the north, and the thicket carries the trade route to Shadow Haven, which a player guide describes as growing much more important now that Luclin is open to Norrath.

a player guide lists the same two neighbours. Beneath the city lie the Paludal Caverns, which a player guide places under Shar Vahl itself and which link both neighbouring zones to Shadow Haven.
