Torment, the Plane of Pain
Torment, the Plane of Pain, is a black cube floating in the ether between the planes: the realm of Saryrn, where islands hang on barbed chains above a lake of blood.
The black cube
It is a huge black cube floating silently in the ether between the planes. It is the reflection of the cruelty, pain and suffering of mind, body and spirit that the goddess Saryrn embodies.
The plane is made of, and held together by, the misery of the creatures in it, and it always thirsts for more suffering so that it can keep growing in power.
Islands on chains
Above a large lake of blood hang many linked islands, lifted and held in the air by barbed chains fixed to obsidian pillars. Suspension bridges join the islands, and a fine mist of blood stains the air and leaves everything a crimson sheen.
The Citadel of Pain is the largest building, among ramps, bridges and islands, with streams of blood pouring from its sides. Saryrn, the Mistress of Torment and Pain, lives there and enjoys the view from her private chamber. Our lore page on Torment and Nightmare tells more.
The end of the Saryrn arc
The arc ends with the Keeper of Sorrows, or the bypass, then Tylis’s Condition. It notes that the Key to Saryrn’s Chambers opens the tower to her, one key per raid, and that the quest Phanti’s Malaise gives zone-in access alone.
A fan guide of the time describes the key: kill Baraguj Szuul to get a container, place in it four orbs dropped by the plane’s avatars, and the result is a screaming sphere. It also says that defeating Bertoxxulous opens the way to Torment.

Reaching Torment
Torment connects to the Plane of Tranquility. It rates the zone 55 to 65 and notes that live servers need level 55 to enter without a key.
Our map draws Torment as its own island just west of the hub.
