Sullon Zek, the Maiden of Rage

Rallos Zek had generals, sons and armies. He also had a daughter who was more dangerous than any of them, because she never stopped being angry.

Who she is

Sullon Zek is the Maiden of Rage, also called The Vengeful. She is a demigod and the daughter of Rallos Zek, the Warlord. The EverQuest RPG’s Game Master’s Guide calls her the discordant evil goddess of rage and says she began as a mortal barbarian woman.

She is also a maker. One history credits her with creating the bolvirk, the giant-like race native to her plane.

How she rose

The fullest telling of her rise is a story of Halas. She was a barbarian berserker named Sullon McKlarren, a hero and protector of Halas, who learned to hone her rage into fighting power. Her fury grew until it drew the attention of Rallos Zek himself.

He pulled her into his plane and set her against his greatest warriors, and she beat them all with little effort. Then the war god stepped into the pit. Sullon tried to lower her twin axes and kneel; Rallos rebuked her and told her never to lower her weapons before an opponent again. They fought to a standstill, and Rallos, filled with pride, adopted her, made her the goddess of rage and gave her a plane of her own.

A second story

A 2006 developer post tells it differently. There Sullon led a revolt inside the Plane of War that lasted nearly a decade. Rallos ended it by giving her a seat among his generals, and by scarring one side of her face.

The same post makes her patron of certain orcs and ties her to the lack of orc females, a detail that suggests her influence reaches far below the planes.

The Plane of Rage

Her realm takes in those who die enraged or commit murder in anger. Its edge is a wall of the animate dead. Souls are reborn into a land called the Devastation and spend their afterlife fighting toward the fortress and the tower where Sullon dwells.

It is a plane with no rest by design. Nobody in it is waiting for judgment; they are fighting, which is the only thing their goddess values.

Saga skins

Maelin of Knowledge, a scholar, left two volumes of notes on the plane. Its people carve or dye their stories into their own skins, so that every warrior carries his history on his body. The second volume describes the Stronghold of Rage and a chosen champion called the Subjucant of Rage.

Confined by her own fury

Her rage eventually turned on her. During the Prophecy of Ro she was confined to her tower after being overtaken by her own rage, a goddess finally beaten by the one thing she had mastered.

She belongs to the house of war with her father and with Vallon and Tallon Zek in the Plane of War. In the Halas story she was a berserker of Halas long before berserkers were a class, and every barbarian who later took up the axe and the rage was walking the road she walked first.

Where the sources disagree

The Fandom account makes her the berserker Sullon McKlarren of Halas, adopted after a duel; a 2006 developer post says she won her place by a decade-long revolt in the Plane of War and was scarred by Rallos. The RPG simply calls her a mortal barbarian woman.
