Allakhazam’s class guide sums the rogue up as a conniving fighter who does the best sustained melee damage from behind, has strong bursts, is superb at scouting and corpse recovery, is the only class that can make poisons, and needs a mercenary to solo well.

What a rogue does
Rogues are the stealthy thieves and vicious assassins who stalk Norrath’s shadows. They are mainly melee fighters, wearing chain and using piercing, slashing and some blunt weapons.
They always try to attack from behind. A rogue can backstab for extra damage, coat weapons in poison, detect traps, pick locks and pockets, and fall safely from great heights.
They can sneak and hide, which lets them go almost anywhere and explore the dangers ahead. With illusion items, rogues make excellent scouts.
The official text calls rogues specialists who work best with friends, adding a great deal to a group’s killing power while walking the dangerous edge of dungeon exploration.

The epic: Ragebringer
Epic quests came to EverQuest in September 2000, shortly after The Ruins of Kunark. They were modelled on the paladin’s Fiery Avenger quest: long, multi-step journeys through the highest-level dungeons, usually needing groups to kill powerful creatures. Each ended in a unique weapon with its own model and particle effects. The rogue’s reward was the Ragebringer, with the effect Seething Fury (worn), plus 40% haste.
Who could be one
In the classic era recreated by Project 1999, the rogue epic could be used by every race except Erudites, High Elves, Trolls, Ogres and Iksar. The Iksar appear there because they joined with The Ruins of Kunark.

Titles
After level 50, each class earns titles that show in /who. A rogue became a Rake at 51, a Blackguard at 55 and a Assassin at 60.

Playing a rogue today
The class is still in the game on Daybreak’s live and time-locked progression servers. Project 1999 recreates the Classic, Kunark and Velious eras, so it has the original fourteen classes. See EverQuest Today for where the game stands now.
