Cobalt Scar

Cobalt Scar is a flooded wound on the southern coast of Velious, left when Veeshan clawed the world: a lethal harbour of sirens, drakes and wyverns, with an Othmir village on the beach below the cliffs.

The claw marks

A classic zone atlas says the Scar is named for the Scars of Veeshan, the place where Veeshan tore the earth of Velious. Since then the gouge has filled with water. A player guide says her clawing is more evident here than almost anywhere in Norrath.

Now it is a deadly harbour. Sirens use the water for cover to lure ships onto the rocks, and wyverns and drakes guard the way to their city, Skyshrine.

Drakes, wyverns and sirens

The Atlas names the cobalt drakes and wyverns along the top of the ridge as the biggest danger. They belong to the Claws of Veeshan, so anyone safe in Skyshrine is safe here, but the drakes’ breath can still catch a bystander, even an invisible one, when they attack someone else.

The sirens come next. All are enchanters, many are hard to spot on the underwater rocks, and they can charm a visitor or strike with magic. A Bulthar camp lies under the tower, with a very large aggro radius, and a player guide reports a true dragon sometimes swimming in the water, so travel by sea is unsafe.

The Othmir

a player guide describes a clan of Othmir on the beach below the cliffs. The Atlas says they like almost everyone, keep merchants and give out some quite good quests. Chief Kalan is among the names it lists.

Hunting here has a quirk worth knowing. Your standing with the drakes and wyverns follows your Skyshrine faction, but killing them does not lower it, so those liked in Skyshrine can hunt here freely. The named ones are the exception. The zone is open and suited to solo play, and gems for Velious armour quests drop often.

Ways in

The first visit has to come through Skyshrine: the Shrine Key opens the teleporter from the dragon city to the Scar’s tower, and once you have it you can also teleport here. The statue on top of the wyvern-ringed tower sends you back with no key needed.

Siren’s Grotto is reached under water: follow the cliff face to the northwest corner of the Scar and the opening is visible beneath the surface. The grotto leads on to the Western Wastes. A community wiki confirms both neighbours, and a player guide rates the zone 35 to 55.
