The Plane of Sky
For classic raiders, Sky was the first plane: a chain of floating islands, a lot of falling, and a very long corpse run. The lore behind it is stranger still.

Endless dusk
The Plane of Sky is Veeshan’s realm, a vast open space of air, cloud and stars. Its sky is always in twilight and never becomes full night or day. From there you can watch the planets and moons of the Ro system move, and their motion defines the whole plane.
Islands and chains
Mortals can only stand there because the plane shows itself as a chain of huge floating islands of earth with a few buildings on them, made of unearthly materials that glisten in the red light of a dawn that never ends. Big steel chains hang from beneath the islands. They seem to be decoration, but the official description hints that they once meant something.
Where is Veeshan?
Many planar beings live there, all made by Veeshan’s will to serve her. But the Wurmqueen herself is not to be found. Her power is said to be too great for mortals to see and understand, and the rumour is that she lies in an endless sleep, her mind kept safe in the realm of dreams ruled by Morell-Thule.
A sky at war
EverQuest II looked back on the plane’s history. A book written by the Aurai says Veeshan’s children claimed the sky by birthright but warred among themselves, dragon lord against dragon lord, which is why so many other powers were able to carve out their own domains. The Aurai’s Yazdani tribes, united under Queen Shabereh of the Four Winds, took the island of Zimara Breadth.

The Aurai’s contempt
The EverQuest II book Sacred to the Aurai is scornful of the dragons: “Wurm against wurm. Kin fighting kin. Pathetic.” If they were made in Veeshan’s image, the writer says, it is no wonder she has stayed away so long. Zimara Breadth was prized for its deposits of ore and semiprecious stones. The Yazdani had held it for hundreds of years since Queen Shabereh led them up a deadly trail to the top of the Strungstone Peaks, then known as Veeshan’s Gaze.

Servants of the sky
Other EverQuest II books add to the plane’s population. The Awakened says that generation after generation of droag served and worshipped Veeshan in the Plane of Sky, and also enforced the laws the dragons made to guide lesser beings. The Djinn Scriptorium Papers accuse the trickster Mudeef of stealing vessels from the Plane of Sky and using dark arts to imprison and abuse djinn.

Tests and trades
For EverQuest players, Sky was a place of class tests. In NPC dialogue, Drakis Bloodcaster asks a necromancer whether they wish to be tested by Dugaas or Jzil. In a 2008 post, developer Jindrack recalled that the last anyone saw of Soulfire in EverQuest was a paladin handing it to Inte Akera in the Plane of Sky in exchange for the Blessing of Nobility.
Where the sources disagree
- The Maps of Myrist say Veeshan is not found in the Plane of Sky at all, while the Library of Erudin’s zone record lists her as a notable NPC there. We follow the official zone description.
